There is nowhere like the forest. The alluring solitude blended with the overwhelming joy of connection seems almost too powerful to be able to witness. Growing up in Texas suburbia, I had no idea what a true forest meant. Down south we have sprawling oaks that only slightly dot the landscape. In suburbia, there is hardly any natural landscape at all. When I moved to Ithaca, a deep, true part of me remembered it was alive. I walked in awe of Nature, realizing how much one can learn by just spending time immersed in pure beauty. Nature is a powerful teacher, and trees are my mentor. I hope to one day be as wise as trees, as quiet, as understanding, and kind. They are just beings, no labels attached to their limbs. They are energetically alive. Connection to the natural world is essential to live truly. Through my art practices, nature is always embedded in my thoughts. Creating and sharing my art allows me to feel like the trees. Their root systems connect each other, aiding in the mutual growth and health of every being in the forest. I want to extend my roots, to the community that surrounds me, speaking about the language and love of the trees and what connection to each other can create.
Through a mixed media practice of digital photographs, cyanotypes, handmade cotton, matte, and watercolor paper, thread, watercolor, graphite, glue, twine, and natural found materials, I hope to share my Bible with you so we can all participate in natures harmonious religion.
